Dry The River is a folk band from London, England mixing mellow folk songs full of awesome harmonies with some glimpses of orchestra rock along the way. They have a new album, Shallow Bed, available here on iTunes. Think Mumford and Sons meets Bon Iver meets Fleet Foxes. Who wouldn’t like that?
(Fun fact for my CT friends: They recorded their album in Bridgeport, Connecticut)
Passion Pit is back with the first single of their new album, Gossamer, due out this July. “Take a Walk” is a little less whiny than a lot of their older stuff and features a more sing-a-long friendly chorus (think Foster the People). Look out for their new album July 24th. Enjoy.
Summer Heart is a great new band from Sweden that is starting to pop up all over the internet. I’m not a huge fan of the genre name “ChillWave,” but the mellow, somewhat spacey sound is so infectious that you’ll find yourself playing the record over and over again. You can buy the record from their site, here. Roll down your car windows and enjoy.
I know Beach House is coming out with a new LP very soon, but I wanted to remind everyone how good their Teen Dream LP is before we get into their new stuff. The new record, Bloom, is due out May 15th on SubPop records. Enjoy.
MUSIC VIDEO MONDAY TUESDAY
Artist: Miike Snow
Song: “The Wave”
I really have no idea what is going on in this video other than to assume that it’s one big metaphor for the end of the world. Either way, Miike Snow is back at it with their latest single, “The Wave,” off the Happy To You record (available on iTunes here). Enjoy.
MUSIC VIDEO MONDAY
Artist: Bon Iver
Song: “Towers”
Bonnie Bear? Bone Bare? Bonny Hair? Bunny Bear? How did people on the internet get this so confused when it was clearly spelled out on the bottom of the screen as BON IVER? Anyway, so he won a grammy, no one knew who he was and thousands of people were outraged that he beat out Skrillex and Nicki Minaj (and were even more outraged that he looked like a High School chemistry teacher).
This is the band’s newest video for “Towers” and it’s just as confusing and ambiguous as all Bon Iver videos, which is awesome. I’m kind of glad in a way that all these morons on the internet will not start to listen to Bon Iver. If you are not a moron, listen to this band.
While I admit I am not a huge fan of Tyga, this song has got me hooked. His latest track features a mellow beat with two heavy hitting guest appearances from Wale and Nas. The track gradually improves with Tyga doing his best Drake impression, Wale delivering a solid verse and Nas killing it to close it out. As I said, Tyga was not really on my radar until now, but maybe his newest album (on iTunes here) will change my mind. We shall see. Enjoy.
MUSIC VIDEO MONDAY SATURDAY
Artist: Freeway
Song: “Master of Ceremony”
Freeway is a gangster rapper from Philadelphia. This is his new song. That’s all you need to know.
Everyone’s favorite Swedish dance-pop trio is back with another infectious track. Miike Snow’s new record, Happy to You, is due out March 26, 2012. It seems like lately a song a day from this album is leaking onto the interwebs. Do yourself a favor and listen. You’ll thank me later.
